Site & Context
Moeller High School is a private all male Catholic high school practicing the Marianist Tradition in Cincinnati. Construction of the school building began in the fall of 1958 and opened in 1960. The construction of the building has not been updated since 1958; with the exception of the new athletics facility for basketball games funded by alumni and donors.
The Office of Business Operations and Alumni Association asked students at the University of Cincinnati to come up with ideas for new classrooms, facilities, cafeterias, libraries, hallways, and teachers lounges to redefine the learning environment for future students and teachers.
This project focuses on the teachers lounge and how to improve the productivity for the teachers to create a more efficient workflow. My focus was to find the areas that were not being utilized properly and reprogram them to make the teacher’s experience and productivity more efficient. The workflow of the teachers in the school is essential for the school to function because without them, there is no learning.
v Existing Site Conditions
The existing conditions do not have a defined space for teachers to keep their personal belongings or a desirable place to eat their lunch and take a break. Out of 45 teachers who work at the school, only 5 teachers (barely) use the lounge. Teachers eat their lunch in the cafeteria and take their breaks in the library because the current teachers lounge does not fulfill their needs and is too far away from the classrooms.

Process
These series of diagrams shows the thought process of the form, programming, and circulation. The angularity of the plans and diagrams contrast the orthogonal exterior to represent productivity and efficiency for a teacher’s workflow. From the entry, the teacher has easy access to most spaces to either relax or work depending on their needs in their space.

Orthogonal Exterior
Teachers have different needs from students. From the teacher's perspective, they are not only educators but professionals; professionals who need work spaces that are enjoyable and functional beyond the classroom.
The design of this teachers lounge is inspired by corporate workplace design to provide teachers with the resources to be productive.

Work Room
Teachers now have their own place to grade papers or meet with their co-workers. Inspired by office spaces, teachers have mini conference rooms and work stations to work. Instead of carrying around their belongings, they also have storage lockers.

Kitchen
The kitchen was intentionally placed in the back for teachers to escape and take advantage of their full lunch break without having to sit with the students in the cafeteria. The kitchen includes a coffee maker and refrigerators to store lunch boxes and updated furniture.
